Bike Theft - Bike Registry Canada

Bike Revolution is a U.K. company that uses the latest mobile applications and technology to offer greater features and services for cyclists who wish to protect and recover their lost and stolen bicycles. They have now collaborated with Bike Registry Canada to introduce a free bicycle registration and an anti-theft platform, Bike Revolution Canada, which provides the only national bicycle registration database in the country.

In a press release, Briand Beausoleil, U.K. spokesman for Bike Revolution, said, “The scannable Pulse ID tags allow the general public and police to know the status of a bike simply by scanning it with their smartphone using a free mobile app.”

The technology is used in the form of scannable tags, mobile apps and social media networks to deter bike theft and, in the case of theft, aid in recovery of the bike. For greater protection, cyclists can purchase a Bike Revolution Bike ID Kit for $14.95, which includes three Pulse ID tags. These are unique, tamper-resistant and weatherproof ID tags which include a scannable QR code (2D barcode) linked to the bike and used to identify a bike's ownership.

A tagged bike can be scanned by the police or the general public with any free 2D barcode scanning mobile app. The tags are linked to the registered bike's owner in the secure Bike Revolution database. When a stolen bike is reported by the owner or detected through a tag (scan, Bike Revolution notifies the owner and uses social networking tools to spread the word locally. The secure database doesn't share any personal information in the process. The victims can send out Stolen Bike Alerts on Facebook and Twitter to local authorities, bike shops, cycling clubs and Bike Revolution's local fans and followers.

Katie Renwick of Bikeregistrycanada.com, said, “Working with Bike Revolution's global platform, Canadian cyclists now have much greater coverage that will only help strengthen our service and help fight bicycle crime.”

Bike Revolution was in the news recently when the company signed a partnership with Kryptonite, a brand within the Residential Solutions Sector of Ingersoll Rand Company Limited focused on creating innovative security products and services that empower the global cycling community.
